Reasons why you should choose home legend bamboo flooring. Getting durable flooring for your home is very vital. Quality is needed if you want your flooring to last long. There are several types of flooring for your home. But one of the most famous choices for home flooring is bamboo flooring. Why is this? The primary reason why people are choosing bamboo as flooring is that it can give the great look that is brought about by any other kinds of flooring material, particularly hardwood, without causing any destruction to the natural forests and the environment in general. Being one of the best natural gifts, bamboo is versatile and multifunctional ever since the discovery of how to use it. There really is no doubt on why people appreciate it. There are two shades of bamboo that are available in the market. Naturally, bamboo comes in a golden blonde shade. However, it can develop a distinct and one-of-a-kind pattern once turned into home flooring. It is extremely popular due to the fact that it is eco-friendly, very durable and looks good.

High-traffic is not an issue to the bamboo flooring. Since it is only new in the USA, some are having doubts about going for it. But the use of bamboo flooring originated centuries ago, and it brought satisfactory results to date.

Another feature that makes bamboo flooring a front liner in flooring material is that, unlike wood, it comes in a variety of colors and hardness. Solid bamboo is heated so that it will gain a darker color compared to its original shade. As for dimensional stability and dent resistance, it is just like an oak tree. It is also quite noticeable in a room. Bamboo is also known as the strongest wood in the planet. The bamboo wood flooring is even in line with the strength of steel. Bamboo flooring strength may differ, though, from the type of bamboo used when and the date of its harvest. It can be very soft if you make mistakes, or real hard once you got things right. Bamboo is your greatest choice for tough flooring, since it is stronger than red oak, hardwood and maple alike.

Since bamboo is this popular, bamboo flooring manufacturers are also growing in number. One of the most reputable companies that produce bamboo flooring is Home Legend. Home Legend bamboo flooring are known makers of quality bamboo flooring and interior decoration products for the home. What makes them popular as they are now is the fact that all their quality products come at affordable rates.

I am trying to find out what the care instructions for Bamboo flooring are, does anyone know what to wash with?

mrmiyagi profile image

mrmiyagi Hub Author 2 years ago

Hi Berni! The maintenance of an Bamboo Floor is easy. You can clean it with a fine fiber broom but if you want to do it right periodic vacuuming will do a completer job. If you wash your floor after vacuuming with any no rinse, clear drying cleaner such as a dish washing liquid mixed with clean water will do.

Is Home Legend's Bamboo carbonized? Also, what are the differences between Natural and Carbonized bamboo? Is one better than the other?

mrmiyagi profile image

mrmiyagi Hub Author 2 years ago

Hi Jacque! Home Legend Bamboo is carbonized. I shall explain what carbonized means. Carbonization is an process, the longer the process the darker the color of the bamboo. The bamboo gets heated and when it is heated sugars in the fiber darken, you will see a coffee colored tone on the surface. Through this process the bamboo loses 30% of his strength. The big difference is that natural bamboo is stronger then carbonized bamboo and of course the colors are different. Natural bamboo is lighter in color. So you could say because of the strength natural bamboo is better, but in my opinion carbonized bamboo gives your floor the better look.

In two days after installing Home Legend Toast bamboo flooring in my kitchen, I have dings, scratches, and I cannot believe this product did not hold up to two entry ways of the room. I have been searching for ways to not let any more damage occur but am unsuccessful. I am extremely disappointed and Home Legend flooring is highly over-rated. Two days and my floor is destroyed.

These various bamboo products are not that great. I've experienced cupping when doing "nail down" installations, even after a long acclimation period. It does scratch easily!

If you read the data sheet, it is not suitable for humid climates. It is also a terrible product if you are having to glue it down with the manufacturers glue. The process of spreading the glue, letting it set up, and then quickly laying that area, means it is an extremely slow process. Most other wood floor glues are a quick spread and lay process. It's rediculous. Of course, if you don't use their glue you void the warranty. Also, the glue is expensive. If you are not going to use the floor and have central air, go for it! I've done over 20 installs with this "Legend" product. Much like most low end laminates, it could be made a lot better, but they won't do it!

Hi Kendra and Hungy, thanks for sharing your experiences with the product. I hope future buyers learn from your experiences and it helps making a decision in which bamboo floor to buy.

Just finished installing HomeLegends solid bamboo wood flooring in the kitchen and dining, beautiful product. However, my wife turned on the vacuum to clean some dust and the dog scrambled, gouging nails into floor leaving grooves and stepping on a tool leaving it's imprint in the floor, so not sure about it being "as durable" as other hardwoods. :^)

No mention here on the Formaldahyde emissions that come with Bamboo flooring, which makes me wonder if the topic is avoided because they are high! And, where is it manufactured, since China and some other countries don't care what they put in a product? How safe is this for my family? Bamboo is called a green product for its enviromental sustainability, but if we save the forests in place of giving our children cancer we have saved nothing. Humans are part of the ecosystems, we are a natural product, so what efforts are there in preserving us?

I would like to know if this flooring is an option for a floating floor?

James 22 months ago

I can confirm that Deb's statements about the formaldehyde off-gassing are completely true. In a room with little ventilation, 'Home Legend' flooring is extremely toxic. Considering this a 'green product' is completely ridiculous.. It has caused me severe respiratory irritation and ultimately resulted in me having to tear the floor out. There's a reason this garbage is $2-$3 a sq ft.. You'll pay with your health!

Thanks for your experience with Home Legend Bamboo Flooring James! You will certainly help others with this information.

Does your product support the new Shark Steam cleaner? Does it void the warranty if you use a steam cleaner.

Karin 21 months ago

Most of these problems could have been avoided if (the age old story)folks had a little education about bamboo products before purchasing: look for only LEED or GreenGuard certified products for very very low emissions.(low in both product engineering and glue down, etc) Anything else will throw off as much as laminates. Also, the cheaper the product-the worse it will wear because the core and top veneer are so thin. Look for stranded bamboo as it's the hardest. Don't buy anything less than a 1/2" engineered or solid. Generally, anything at the $7 price point is thick enough w/ the proper core to wear as well or better than a solid oak floor. Finally-stay away from the $3 to $4 SF flooring; it's junk. Expect to pay $7 to $9 and you will see the quality and durability.

I do not believe Mr Miyagi is a person of compassion , why is he even on this site? He does not represent Home Depot or Home Legend. I have had the same problems that previous buyers have had. I do not believe the moisture is an issue. Buyers should have been advised that some kind of humidifier would be needed to maintain proper moisture if that is an issue. The installation instructions do not explain or offer any info regarding keeping the proper humidity level. We use a gas stove in our room and it probably does have a tendancy to reduce moisture level. If the moisture is too low, you would expect to see gaps between the sides of the flooring pieces, not just the ends. My flooring seperated on the ends as everyone elses and had the floor inspected and was advised that this is due to low moisture (bull crap. Why wouldn't the sides seperate as well? The reason for the ends seperating is because there is no snap-lock feature on the ends (or a very poor one) After walking on the floor for a while the ends begin to seperate. MrMiyagi sucks, all he cares about is the profit margin, just like Home Legend and Home Depot. I have contacted Home Legend, they advised that I can get my own inspection of the floor done, but I would have to pay for it. MrMiyagi paints a bad image of the actor from Karate Kid.

Hi Woodenknee, I do not represent Home Depot or Home Legend and just wanted to make a page about Home Legend Bamboo flooring for people who do not know anything about it. My experience with it is ok but like you there are a lot of others who have problems with the product. In my opinion people can make a better decision after reading hubs like these. They can read peoples experiences and see the pros and cons. Thanks for your comment.

why did my toast bamboo change colors? not just around the windows but the entire floor. is all miss matched now and looks fake.

amy 16 months ago

I think home legend bamboo toast is beautifull. but I

would not recommend it for any one who actually lives in there home. they told me that it is more durable than wood. That is sooo not true.not only does it show every

spec of dirt it also damages very easily. and now I read

about formaldehyde toxins I so wish I had not purchased

bamboo floor!!!

Hi, I recently installed this product in one of my home's bedrooms ( the 3-4 dollar sq/ft.) It was easy enough, we did a floating floor with proper moisture barrier, on concrete slab, and it looks beautiful. I live in Florida so moisture is definately present at all times however I have not had any issues. I did the install with a friend who used to install floors for a living so there were tips of the trade available to help me. If youv'e never installed wood flooring of any kind before I recommend talking to people or recrutiing a friend who does as the silly 15 minute segments on the DIY network leave much to be learned on your own, which can be very frustrating, and in the end costly. The floor has been down for over a month and I don't seem to have the scratches and dents that other customers may be experiencing. This is a bedroom and not very high traffic. To put wood, in any kind of high traffic area, seems like poor judgement to me so you may want to reconsider. Get an idea of your Janka ratings (a hardiness measurment of many types of wood ) before you commit to anything. If you are going to use this Home Legend Bamboo I recommend you have a sharp blade in whatever saw your using as you will get splintering otherwise. There was no glue involved in my install as it was floating and click and lock. No, I don't work for either of the above companies just to throw that out there. Just wanted to give and idea of things one may consider before they buy this product. All in all I am happy with this product. Good luck!
