Consider your patio space. Is it a fully covered area, semi-covered or will all the furniture in that space exposed to the elements on a 24/7 basis? You do have to remember that less time your furniture spends being under direct sunlight or subjected to moisture, means the longer you can keep it looking great. So if you want one, you need to seriously consider what design you should get to make your patio space look more enticing. Most patio spaces are made predominantly out of wood. Is it dark wood or lightly colored wood? A darkly colored patio would benefit from a lightly colored wood bench or a wrought iron bench painted in white (or other shades of white); and vice versa. Of course, you can choose darkly hued furniture to match your darkly colored patio, but you may want to add a splash of color to the setting by using colorful or lightly colored padded seats, cushions or throw pillows. Besides, matching furniture pieces are always better to look at. In some cases, you can even save more money by buying matching sets as opposed to buying one furniture piece at a time. Nonetheless, if you do already have several mismatched patio benches, and you want to bring these pieces together aesthetically, you can do so by simply using similar colored accessories like cushions, back sofa drapes and even using similar looking rugs underneath.

Consider the actual storage area. Many people do not, which leads to their dissatisfaction with the furniture pieces that they have bought. A lot of these people assume that the storage area under the patio benches would be spacious enough to accommodate everything, and sealed tightly to keep out all kinds of unwanted elements (e.g. moisture, dust and even small animals like insects, etc.) But that is not the case 90% of the time. The space underneath the bench is often dictated by the size of the bench itself. Therefore, a small bench equates to a small storage area. If you want the largest storage space possible, you could look into oversized patio furniture pieces. Additionally, many of these aforementioned storage areas are “open,” which means that the box underneath can keep a few items in but will not really keep out moisture or dirt. This is especially true when it comes to wrought iron patio benches. You can literally see between the metal grills what is inside the storage area. If you want a sealed storage space, then you need to inspect furniture pieces to see if these have solid walls and a tight fitting lid. Wood patio bench would be a very good option here.
